Live sustainably during our travel

Get out your fireworks, fumigating candles, bibles, legislative texts or other ceremonial items! We are performing an oath on our travel codes:

OUR TRAVEL CODEX

Hereby we, Viviane and Steffen, solemnly promise today, on 1st of June 2018, to travel as sustainably as possible, with a minimum ecological footprint, and to follow the following principles to the best of our knowledge and abilities, but without guaranteeing the completeness and correctness of them:

No airplanes & no own car

We say NO to motorized flying objects. In this group also belong ufos, but electric airplanes are ok. On top of that, we will use sustainable modes of transportation e.g. our feet, bikes, bus, train, ships etc. Hitchhiking is an appropriate means to also use motorized cars. Neither the wildest forests nor the deepest oceans can keep us from achieving this goal.

Slooooooow Travel

We have time and so we travel in slow motion, similar to the slo-mos in Matrix. We are stress-resistant and always relaxed. For the first trip we have scheduled to ride on average 30 km per day with our bikes.

Respect!

We will respect people, their personalities, habits, traditions and cultures. Whenever possible or necessary, we will adapt to them, e.g. regarding our clothes and food.

Good Food

We love food, especially when it is ecologocial, fair, slow, vegan, regional and seasonal, from small-scale farmers and traditionally processed. Simply Slow Food. Nevertheless, it is very difficult to get those “super foods” while traveling, particularly as we only have 10 Euros per day to spend. We are aware of that and will try to find the best compromises. At least Foodsharing is one way not to starve in Germany and Austria.

Best equipment

Bought, used once, broken, scraped… That would not happen to us, as we set a high value on longevity – the term “planned obsolescence” is not known to us.

SDGs

We support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and tell about them where suitable, e.g. here. Especially SDGs 14 and 15, the life under water and on land, are important to us.

Sleep with a clear conscience

We will couchsurf and camp for all we’re worth. Hotels and other touristic accomodations are no-no, except they are really sustainable and have a serious eco-certification. Fortunately there are more and more of those.

Long-lasting relationships

We wish to get to know people and stay in contact with them. Therefore we created this website to stay connected and always have a clear memory of the great and inspiring people we met. We will do our best to stay in contact and to learn from each other.

We love nature

We respect nature and take care not to unnecessarily disturb animals and natural goods of our planet.
