As we travelled in the last months in a confusing zigzag we will explain you our route. We divided our tour into 4 stages.
Stage 1 (June — August 2018) — Green line
3 months cycling trip from Germany to Montenegro
We started our journey on 1st of June 2018 in Germany. We cycled along the Danube and the Green Belt Balkan (former Iron Curtain) to the wetland Ulcinj Salina in Montenegro. Along the way we visited interesting protected areas and stayed with local people.
Stage 2 (September — October 2018) — Blue Line
2 months volunteering for the bird paradise Ulcinj Salina and exploring Montenegro
Vivi helped the local nature protection organisation MSJA (Dr. Martin Schneider-Jacoby Association) in creating an info brochure about Ulcinj Salina and in improving the website. We also had time to explore the beautiful country of Montenegro and its diverse natural treasures.
Stage 3 (November 2018 — May 2019) — Red line
7 months of hitchhiking and volunteering
We hitchhiked, took busses and trains through Albania, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and all the way back to Montenegro. We volunteered for 6 weeks (Nov — Dec 2018) in the refugee-project Habibi.Works in Ioannina, Greece. From March to May we supported a Greek family in Agios Nikolaos for 2 weeks and helped on an organic farm close to Heraklion for 2 months.
Stage 4 (June — July 2019) — Purple line
Cycling through Eastern Europe
We cycled through Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland. In Krakow we took the train to Gdansk where Vivi’s mum pick us up and drove with us to Dziemiany.
Stage 5 (August — September 2019) — Yellow line
Exploring the region of Kaschubia
Vivianes mother manages holiday cottages 100km south of Gdansk directly at a lake surrounded by two nature parks. Viviane knows the hilly landscape with pine and beech forests, clear lakes and meandering rivers already since her childhood. Now she has time to show Steffen her second home.
